Siena, 4th November, 2020 – Once again, the jewels of Tuscan wines – Brunello and Chianti – are at the centre of illegal trade, stopped by Italian police.
The investigation started on March 2019, an Italian winery returning from China reported to the Florence police that they have seen “clones” of fine Italian wines displayed at an important fair in Chengdu, China.
Thousands of bottles filled with a simple wine and without labels were shipped to Hong Kong, fake premium Brunello and Chianti labels were stuck and then forwarded to west China. 7 people are under investigation, 4 Italians and 3 Chinese resident in Italy.
The wine market in China has already been hurt by Covid-19, exports no need additional suffering from scams.
