2020 Italian Wine Harvest: Overview

Good quality of the grapes, and in some cases excellent, for the 2020 vintage that promises to be very interesting.

As per quantity, 2020 is in line with 2019: expected 47.2 million hectolitres, -1% compared to 2019.

However, the last vintage has been affected by unforeseeable economic situation (Covid-19). Consequently, both the Government and many protection Consortia have implemented yields reduction.

Nevertheless, this should allow Italy to remain the world’s leading wine producer, followed by France (with 45 million hectolitres) and Spain (with 42 million hectolitres).
