2021 Italian wine export: some figures …

2021 Italian wine export, some figures
  • In 2021 Italian wine export worth about 7100 million €

The growth of +12% compared to pre-pandemic 2019 (unrelated to current market dynamics) highlights the resilience of 2021.

  • In 2021 Prosecco export worth about 930 million € (13% share of total Italian wine export, 28% share of total Italian DOP wine export)

It is indisputable that Prosecco is driving the entire sector with great benefits for everyone, but relying on a single category may not be stable in the long term.

Let’s put the data into perspective: remember where we come from, 2020 was a year that suffered the inevitable consequences of the pandemic:

  • Global wine imports -7%, China wine imports -27%, Japan -15%, the USA -11%, Russia -9%, the UK -4%

2021, on the other hand, showed a global generalized growth, with several double-digit recovery:

  • Australia wine imports +28%, Switzerland +21%, the USA +19%, Russia +19%, Brazil +18%, Canada +10%, Germany +6%, the UK +6%, despite the Chinese import numbers are still down -9% (China recorded -27% in 2020)
