Italian sparkling wine will make the holidays even more fun, both in Italy and overseas. It’s expected that 341 million bottles will be uncorked during Christmas and New Year’s.
In Italy, about 101 million bottles will be enjoyed, with 95 million of those being made in Italy. And it looks like people abroad are also really into Italian sparkling wine – an estimated 246 million bottles will be popped open, which is an 8% increase from previous years.
These predictions come from the Italian Wine Union’s Observatory and Ismea.
To understand the magnitude of 101 million bottles of sparkling wine uncorked during the holiday, it can be helpful to compare it to the annual production of other popular sparkling wines such as Prosecco (754 million bottles) and Champagne (322 million bottles).
