Vertical tasting of Capannelle Solare IGT, including a precious 1990, is among the oldest wine I ever tasted.
Capannelle, located in the heart of Gaiole in Chianti hillside, was born in 1975. The winery has an altitude of 400 m and 16 ha of vineyards from which about 80.000 bottles are obtained.
A very particular choice, they don’t produce Chianti Classico “Annata” (latest vintage) but only “Chianti Classico Riserva” and “Chianti Classico Gran Selezione“. In addition, they produce a white “Chardonnay“, the famous “50/50” and their flagship “Solare”.
Solare was born in 1990, thanks also to the collaboration with Giorgio Pinchiorri. From 1990 to 1995 was produces exclusively for his Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence (3-star by Michelin), then from 1996 was finally released to the market.
As you can guess by reading the labels, great emphasis is placed on the vintages. Respect for the unique conditions of each vintage is privileged over the search for a recognizable standard. In fact, the different climatic conditions can affect the colour of the wine in an unexpected way compared to the classic evolution from ruby red to garnet red with ageing.
