San Gimignano (Italy), 16th February 2020 – Vito Donatiello was invited to Anteprima Vernaccia San Gimignano 2020. The winemakers of the municipality of San Gimignano presented to the public, the trade and the press, the new vintages that will be released in 2020: the Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2019 and the Reserve 2018.
Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG
The production area of Vernaccia di San Gimignano falls entirely within the Municipality of San Gimignano, situated in the centre of Tuscany, a hilly area located between 200 and 400 meters of altitude.
The territory is very suitable for wine production, the main appellation is Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG, overlapping other appellations, San Gimignano DOC, Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG and Toscana IGT.
Appellation regulations:
- Delimitation of production area to the municipality of San Gimignano
- Grapes: minimum 85% of the Vernaccia di San Gimignano grape, the other 15% non-aromatic white grape
- Reserve must refine for 11 months in the cellar
- Yield: not exceeding 90 quintals/hectare
- Vinification, maturation and bottling must be done within the production area
